COVID 19 and Child Care -- Sunday Discussion Program

Catherine Lieberman will present and lead a discussion on COVID 19 and Child Care: How the Pandemic Exacerbated Existing Issues in the Early Care and Education Industry. Child care — the early education industry — has been deemed essential in almost every state. But the early education sector is predicted to lost a third to half of all providers operating before the pandemic. While most industries have received bailouts or financial assistance to stabilize through this crisis, the early care and education industry has yet to receive any additional funding. Loss of high quality child care programs creates “child care deserts,” areas of the country where demand for care far exceeds availability. The country cannot recover from this crisis unless the workforce has care for the youngest citizens, but that care is disappearing.

Catherine Lieberman is the director of Bell’s School, a year-round preschool serving children ages 2-6. She works with the Center for American Progress and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) to advocate for additional funding and recognition for early childhood education.
